The primary functions of this Department are interpretation, administration and enforcement of the County Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision regulations, storm water management, soil & erosion control and rural addressing. This department does not provide legal advice but staff provides opinions and direction to elected and appointed officials and citizens regarding all development in unincorporated Woodford County; from rezoning to accomodate major subdivisions to construction of homes, commercial buildings, sheds and fences.
The Department provides planning advice and assistance to the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Conservation, Planning, and Zoning Committee and the County Comprehensive Plan and all other applicable Ordinances as well as to municipaltiies and townships in the County as requested. The Department oversees updates to the Comprehensive Plan, although final authority for implementing the Plan rests with the County Board.
